How To Develop Confidence As A Virtual Assistant

I often hear new VAs lamenting their struggle to get their first client because they are a newbie. But the fact of the matter is this: 99.9% of the time they are seasoned, savvy, well educated professionals who have worked in the corporate world for years. They are not new to doing the work, they are simply new to being an entrepreneur. There is a BIG difference between the two.  If you aren’t careful, being a new VA can quickly overshadow your many years of experience and cause your confidence to take a hit.

Another challenge I see with VAs is that because of how administrative professionals typically interact with their colleagues, you may not feel comfortable being proactive. Schedule this! Copy that! The demands that you receive as an admin are endless. Sometimes you may feel that all you do is serve others according to their beck and call. That can be damaging to your confidence.

As a business owner however, you will need to boost your confidence because you are now the “Shot Caller.” All orders regarding your business come directly from YOU! How can you ensure that you have the emotional strength to build a successful business?

Show Up In A BIG Way

People are looking for the solutions you have to offer as a Virtual Assistant. That fact alone gives you the energy you need to be empowered to make yourself available to others in a bold way. Therefore, you should take advantage of every opportunity to create awareness for your work. This means marketing your skills and talents in an effective way. Show up at networking events and conferences where your ideal clients will be in attendance.

Diligently follow up with those who express an interest in working with you. Showing up BIG simply means putting yourself out there into the world and letting people know that you possess the skills that they need to solve their pressing administrative problems.

Become A Decision Maker

You will be faced with a multitude of opportunities and decisions with regards to marketing your business. As you read this, you may be struggling with the thoughts of, “Should I use Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest or LinkedIn?” You will also have to figure out if you need to invest in training to grow your business.

It is easy to become bogged down in the decision making process. In order to boost your confidence as a business owner, get used to being decisive. Of course, every choice that you make won’t be perfect. But, honestly, no small child is going to be harmed as a result of your decision. I guarantee you that whatever you decide, it will be a learning experience that you can utilize to improve your skills and knowledge. At times when you become afraid of making a decision, accept that fear and decide anyway. You will relieve yourself of much anxiety and move on to the next step. Being decisive allows you to be progressive and build your confidence at the same time.

Take The Right Action

Taking action consistently towards an important goal is the only way to build a successful business. The decisions that you make should be in harmony with the business goals that you have established for yourself. Decisive decision-making must be followed up with decisive action. Acting on the goals that you have set for your business is the absolute best way to build confidence in your abilities a Virtual Assistant. That’s how you see what works, what doesn’t and where you need to make adjustments.

As a business owner, you are the CEO, office manager and implementer. This role that you have accepted is a very good thing. You want to step into that role by building your confidence as an entrepreneur. Have faith in your abilities and in the decisions that you make. Follow up your decisions with actions that will pull you closer to accomplishing your goals. These steps will surely boost your confidence as a Virtual Assistant.
